What do you do when you pass a mirror? Do you fix your hair and smile? About 10.3% of Southern Indiana residents may not smile at the mirror because they do not have access to dental care. It doesn’t feel good to give yourself a big toothy grin when you don’t like what you see. Furthermore, lack of dental care and poor dental hygiene can lead to more serious health problems and even make it difficult to find employment.
Caris College in Jeffersonville, Indiana, has teamed up with Miles of Smiles to help give access to dental care through the use of a mobile dental clinic to communities like Memphis, Corydon and Georgetown – just to name a few! Our comprehensive dental assisting students will gain valuable hands-on experience while at the same time helping underserved communities.
Miles of Smiles is a non-profit organization supported by financial grants and sponsorships including Graceland Baptist Church. The mobile clinics are staffed by volunteer dentists and dental assistants. Caris College dental assisting students will assist the dentists with procedures such as dental cleanings, fillings, crowns and x-rays.
You can donate to Miles of Smiles through Graceland Baptist Church.
