Bruce loves education and lifelong learning is part of his DNA. Another passion of Bruce’s is the intersection of creativity and business. Bruce is an entrepreneur at heart and some of his most significant achievements have been launching and growing educational institutions.
He founded the organization that later became ATA college in 1994, in which he divested his ownership in 2010. The following year, he became involved with another school, Florida Academy in Fort Myers, FL. One year later, in conjunction with his partners from Florida Academy, they purchased interest in the Academy for Dental Assisting, in which he then became CEO. The Academy of Dental Assisting’s name changed to MedQuest College in 2012 to incorporate the other medical programs that are offered.
He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance and Economics from Indiana University Southeast. When he is not working, Bruce enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife Michelle and their two children. The whole family loves taking care of their babies: Sugar, their 5 pound white Maltese and KitKat, their Pomeranian.
Mandy Hicks, RT (R), RDMS (AB)(OB/GYN)
Director of Education
Director of Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Mandy was born in Kentucky and attended Morehead State University from 2000-2006. While at Morehead, she obtained her Associate of Applied Science. She became registered as a Radiologic Technologist in 2005. Mandy continued at Morehead in their Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and became registered by the ARDMS in 2007. She has worked in the acute care setting since 2007 performing the majority of her practice in high-risk O.B. Mandy was promoted to Caris College’s Director of Education in March of 2017.
Brittany joined the Caris College team in March of 2018. She was born and raised in Owensboro, KY, where most of her family still resides. She moved to Louisville in 2010 where she currently lives with her husband, Keith, and step-daughter, Kyla. Brittany earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College in Corporate Communications, and her Master’s Degree in Sport Administration from the University of Louisville. She began her career in higher education in 2009 as a Registrar and later transitioned to an Evening Division Dean in 2015 when she also began teaching. She currently serves on the Conference Planning and Member Relations Committees through the Kentucky Association of Career Colleges and Schools. Brittany loves the power of education, and the ability to take a dream and turn it into a reality for students.
When she isn’t working, Brittany enjoys traveling, hitting the gym and spending time with her family. She considers herself a total foodie, and loves anything revolved around eating!
Director of Financial Aid
Heather joined the Caris College staff in June of 2018. She was born in New Jersey but has lived in Southern Indiana for most of her life. She graduated with her Associate Degree in Accounting from Decker College and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Accounting at Western Governors University. Prior to coming to Caris, Heather worked in Financial Aid and Student Services at Ivy Tech Community College in Sellersburg and held the position of Director of Student Financial Affairs at Decker College in Louisville.
In her free time, Heather enjoys spending time with her four children: Toby, Jordan, Jackson, and Madisyn. She also enjoys reading, swimming, camping, and serves as Committee Chair for her son’s Boy Scout Troop.
Deena joined the Caris College team in August 2018 in our Registrar/Bursar position.
Deena graduated from Murray State University in 2008 with a BS in Education and is currently completing her Masters in Human Development and Leadership with an emphasis on Higher Education.
Before joining Caris, Deena worked at the University of Louisville as the Assistant to OHR Dental Chair as well as working 5 and a half years at the University of Kentucky as the Recruitment and Career Services Director at the Ik Engineering Paducah Campus. While at UK she doubled student enrollment three years in a row. She loves that Caris is a relatively new campus and is excited to utilize her skills from UK to help our programs rock!
In her free time, Deena enjoys spending time with her two adult children, snorkeling, beach time, reading, and exploring Louisville as she is a newbie to the Ville!
Director of Admissions
Katie Wilson, Admissions Advisor with Caris College joined our team in October 2017. Katie is a graduate of Indiana University Southeast earning a BA in Communications in May 2001. In 2005 she completed her Graduate Certificate in Transition to Teaching at Indiana Wesleyan University earning her Professional Educator’s License. Last year she was accepted into Indiana Wesleyan’s Graduate Counseling Program to pursue a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus in school and academic counseling. Most recently, Katie earned her certification as a Licensed EnrollMatch Trainer in August 2018.
Upon graduating with her BA, Katie first worked as a Community Support Specialist at Rauch Inc. Her experience at Rauch sparked an interest in education and helping other’s reach their goals. She has taught in public and private schools, both elementary and secondary, as well as fill in as an Adjunct Instructor here at Caris College.
When Katie is not working, she enjoys reading historical fiction, attending her children’s athletic and theater events, spending time with her husband, yoga and fitness, and traveling the United States!
Ashley Ragsdale, RT(R), RDMS(AB)(OB/GYN)
Ashley joined the Caris College team in August 2018 as a Clinical Coordinator and Instructor for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
Ashley graduated from Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) in 2009 with an Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology. In 2010 she graduated from JCTC with an Associate of Applied Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Ashley then graduated in 2017 from Spencerian College with a Bachelor of Science in Radiographic Science Administration.
She has more than nine years of experience working in the medical field as an Ultrasound and Radiology Technologist and three years of experience teaching as an Adjunct Radiology Instructor.
In her free time, Ashley enjoys spending time with friends and family and going to concerts and craft fairs!
Clinical Support Specialist
Heather joined the Caris College team in August 2018 as the Clinical Support Specialist for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
Heather took general education classes at WKU, then transferred to Bowling Green Community and Technical College for the Sonography program where she graduated with an Associate’s degree in Applied Science – Diagnostic Medical Sonography. She recently went back to college online at University of the Cumberland’s and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services with a minor in Business.
Prior to joining Caris College, Heather worked at Hardin Memorial Hospital for more than seven years as an Ultrasound Technologist. She is also the wife of a pastor and does a lot of work in the church.
Heather loved working with students during their clinical rotations at Hardin and is excited to get to be a part of their education here at Caris College.
When she is not working, Heather loves to spend time with family, especially her husband and baby boy! She also enjoys working in the church that her husband pastors; including teaching classes, planning events and preparing meals.
Kathy Brewer, RDMS (AB)(BR)(OB/GYN)
Lead Sonography Instructor
Kathy began her career as an XRay Tech in Salem Indiana in 1981. She is registered in OBGYN, Abdomen and Breast and has over 35 years of direct hands on experience. She has worked as a sonographer, trained sonographers on new machines and is now educating our future sonographers at Caris. Kathy said “People think that babies are typically the draw into ultrasound but for me it was a gallbladder!” When asked why, she has said “as an xray tech the gallbladder was not visible so I called in a sonographer who was able to locate the non-visual gallbladder and from there I was hooked!” Kathy has worked in several hospitals in different states as a PRN, was the Director of Fetal Diagnostics for 9+ years at Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY and in Charleston West Virginia. She is a previous owner of a sonography training program in Paoli Indiana and has worked at several OBGYN’s performing ultrasounds for expecting mothers.
Kathy has been a Sonography Instructor for over 10 years and is a major contributor to the very well-educated and trained sonography students that graduate our program. With her knowledge, experience and professionalism our students will stand out against any competing sonography program.
Denise Persinger, CDA, B.G.S., EFDA
Director of Comprehensive Dental Assisting
Denise joined Caris College in June of 2018 as the Program Director for the Comprehensive Dental Assisting program.
Denise has been teaching for about 7 years and has been in the dental field for 11 years. While working and being in this field she has been a student, worked as an assistant, an instructor, and an office manager – she has done it all!
Before joining Caris, Denise attended Wichita State University where she graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of General Studies Aging and a Bachelor of General Studies Biology.
In her free time, Denise enjoys hiking, riding vintage Vespas and spending time with her husband!
Zakiyya Madden, EDFA, CDA
Lead instructor of Comprehensive Dental Assisting
Zakiyya joined Caris College in October of 2018 as the Lead Instructor for the Comprehensive Dental Assisting program.
Zakiyya studied her undergrad at U of L (biology) and attended and Graduated Plaza Dental School in 2012 where she became a certified Dental Assistant and Expanded Duties Dental Assistant. In her past, she has worked as a Clinical Manager where she oversaw all clinical operations of a private practice. She trained all company externs and prepared them to start their new careers. She has also worked closely with patients to put together treatment plans and discuss different financial options. Zakiyya was also a Lead Area EDDA of a multimillion-dollar corporate practice.
In her free time, she likes to spend time with her family. She especially likes doing creative things and enjoying the arts. She enjoys going to museums, taking painting and cooking classes too. Zakiyya and her family also do a lot of physical activities like skating, gymnastics, baseball, and hiking.
Elizabeth Taylor, LPN, CPCT-I, (ACA)
Director of Patient Care Technicians
Elizabeth was born in Southern Indiana and has lived here her whole life. She started working in healthcare in 1995 as a unit secretary and gained experience working in other roles at hospitals over the years. In 2008 she graduated from Ivy Tech Community College with a Diploma in Practical Nursing. She has taught medical assisting, phlebotomy, patient care and EKG in postsecondary education for the last several years. In March of 2018 she graduated from Bellevue University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Adult Education. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and gardening.
Marketing Coordinator and Admissions Advisor
Katie Casper joined Caris College in October 2017 in a unique, dual role as the Marketing Coordinator and Admissions Advisor.
She attended college at Indiana University Southeast and graduated in May 2017 earning a BA degree in Multimedia Journalism with a minor in communications and public relations. Prior to coming to Caris College, Katie was involved in multiple positions on the IU Southeast campus. One of these roles include Co-Editor-In-Chief of The Horizon, IU Southeast’s student paper and media organization.
During her time at IUS, Katie also worked as a receptionist in the office of Campus Life. This gave her the opportunity to meet and talk with new and current students regularly. Katie was also involved in many campus life activities, including helping build and create a student organization, and the Peer Mentoring Program. In May 2017, Katie was awarded the Indiana University Southeast Outstanding Journalism Student Award for the social science program.
When she is not working Katie loves spending time with her friends, family and boyfriend. She enjoys going to the movies, traveling and enjoying the local atmosphere, places and events in the Southern Indiana/Louisville Area. In her spare time Katie also enjoys freelancing in all areas of the multimedia journalism field.
Kristin moved to Louisville from Massachusetts in 2004 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Louisville in 2008 with a BA in English. Prior to joining us here at Caris, Kristin worked as a receptionist and a personal assistant in the medical and insurance fields, and also worked as an independent contractor sewing costumes for The Kentucky Opera and for Elvis Presley Enterprises. As the school’s administrative assistant, Kristin does whatever is necessary to keep things running as smoothly as possible and free up the rest of the staff to focus on what’s most important: our students.
In her free time, Kristin enjoys exercising, traveling, and attending live theatre with her friends. She also still loves sewing, just not for profit.
Amber joined Caris College with 10 plus years of marketing and advertising experience in May 2016. While attending college to become a Medical Assistant in 2001, she was hired as a marketing assistant for a local company. After completing her externship and graduating she realized her passion was in Marketing/Advertising. Having experience as a medical assistant and in marketing will help Caris College better position themselves in the Indiana market. Amber spends her free time watching her son play baseball all over the region and enjoying quality time with her daughter and husband.
